Journey into the Dance of Argentina – Learn to Tango

Everyone knows that Tango is the most famous dance of Argentina. As a proud Argentine man myself, I was always a bit embarrassed that I didn’t possess the dancing skills of so many of my fellow countrymen. So this year, I decided to tackle the dancing challenge and enrol in some proper Tango lessons.

I still have a lot to learn, but here is a video showing the result of my journey into Tango so far. My partner Clio and I demonstrate a few basic steps and a couple of fancier tricks that will help you impress the ladies on the dance floor…

Enjoy, and let’s Tango!

Saludos. Juan

Juan, the way how you describe so sympathetically your journey into the world of tango is great ! Feel free dancing for yourself and your esposa and every day you´ll become better and better ! Regards, Christian

  5. Hola!
Because “The Real Argentina” left a comment on my blog with this link, I feel free to comment on the tango part of this site.

My Argentine partner and I have been teaching tango together since the Championships of 2006 when we were Finalistas. We love the traditional tango with all our hearts and promote it whenever we can.

Juan, the basic step of tango is the WALK, the Caminata–no square or box step. Social tango is danced in la ronda, or a counter-clockwise line of dance–not in one spot!!

Social tango is not about patterns, steps or memorized choreography, like ballroom dance at Arthur Murray's, for example. The tango of the milongueros is all about the music, improvisation, the embrace, connection, elegance, and sensuality.
There is nothing of this in your video. Plus the young lady is bouncing and turning her head like crazy. And where is the embrace??? The connection??
I don't like to criticize without being asked, but I like less that the wrong ideas of tango are spread around the world.
Thank you for publishing my comment. I wish you well–just better tango!

  6. Thanks for the advice, Cherie. Juan is just a beginner, trying to have fun and to get more people interested in tango.
